A US real estate agent has been caught with his hands in the underwear drawers of one of his clients.

The 60-year-old man was captured rifling through the small-clothes drawer by a video security system the Arlington Virginia homeowners had installed to capture thieves during open inspections.

The homeowner told media he and his wife were "creeped out" by the footage when they played it back later.

The camera caught the real estate agent going through a bedroom closet and a dresser before pocketing three items of clothing.

Police arrested Stephen Brumme and charged him with burglary and possession of burglary tools after the homeowner approached them with the footage.

The owner told arlnow.com that Brumme had entered the house with permission ahead of conducting a tour of the house.

The camera was in plain sight.

"Our reaction was a feeling of being violated by a creep who wanted to go through our things," the homeowner said. "I like to think that people are good, but often times they're not."

Brumme has had his real estate license suspended.
