SG Singapore, Columbia sign investment guarantee deal

Agreement (IGA) that will provide a legal framework for investment between the two countries, according to media reports.

“With this IGA, Singapore companies can further explore new business and investment opportunities in Colombia, especially in sectors such as oil and gas, infocomms technology, water and master-planning (urban, industrial and mobility projects),” said Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI).

The IGA was signed by Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang as well as Colombia's Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism H E Sergio Díaz-Granados Guida in Bogota, Colombia on 16 July (Colombian time).

Aside from opening more business and investment opportunities for companies from both countries, the agreement will also protect the interests of investors and underscore the growing economic ties between the two countries, it was reported.

Colombia is the city-state's sixth largest trading partner in Latin America and the Carribbean, with bilateral trade amounting to S$1.06 billion last year.
