National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan yesterday revealed the government’s plans to address the demand for two-room Build-to-Order (BTO) flats.

In a blog post, Mr Khaw said that later this month, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) will release for sale the balance two-room flats in non-mature estates from the previous BTO exercises. A total of 1,100 flats will be added to the September BTO launch of 190 units, more than double the number of units from the July launch.

Mr Khaw also said that the HDB will launch 450 BTO units that will be launched in November, making a total of 2,500 two-room flats in non-mature estates this year.

He also added that the authorities have altered the design and layout of the BTO flats that will be launched next year.

“This will allow us to ramp up two-room BTO supply in non-mature estates to 5,000 units next year. This is about two times the supply of two-room flats this year,” he said.

At the BTO balloting exercise of 519 units in July, Singles aged 35 and above were allowed to apply for new HDB flats in non-mature estates, for the first time. About 8,800 singles applied for the BTO flats.
