Clementi is a good example of a town that has benefitted from HDB's Selective En Bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS), said National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan.

While SERS requires residents to relocate, almost nine in 10 SERS residents expressed strong support for the programme as shown in the latest survey by HDB.

In Casa Clementi (pictured), a SERS replacement site, 91 percent of the residents surveyed expressed support for SERS, while 93 percent indicated their satisfaction with their new facilities.

Notably, the first SERS site in Clementi was unveiled in 1997 and over the last 16 years, around 2,800 households have moved into new flats.

“Today, Clementi flats are highly sought after,” wrote Mr Khaw in his latest blog post.

At the Town Centre is the new Clementi Mall, part of a mixed development project which features dining, shopping and transport amenities as well as many residents from former SERS blocks within the vicinity.

The mixed development project has received international awards including the international FIABCI Prix d’Excellence award, in recognition of the benefits it brings to the community and its exemplary design.

“SERS is not only about creating new hardware. We make a conscious effort to develop the heartware by keeping community ties strong,” Mr Khaw said.

“After all, many kids grew up together in HDB estates and have forged lifelong friendships. Through careful planning, SERS enable residents to continue to live near their neighbours in a better environment,” he added.
