By Nikki De Guzman:
The Housing and Development Board (HDB) will set aside around S$1.5 million to help 3,000 shops enhance their vibrancy and competitiveness.
Spread across 32 locations islandwide, this is the fifth batch of shops to benefit from HDB’s Revitalisation of Shops (ROS) Scheme.
Introduced in November 2007, the scheme is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to help HDB retailers and has benefitted 4,500 shops, or about 50 percent of our Town and Neighbourhood Centres.
Under the scheme, retailers can get co-funding for upgrading of common areas, co-funding for promotional events, and rent-free periods for tenants to renovate their shops.
For promotional events, HDB will co-fund up to 50 percent of the expenditure for promotional events organised by MAs to attract crowds. For the latest batch, 60 events are expected to be organised.
