FROM its wallpaper and carpet to other retro finishes, this house is a throwback to the sixties.

Selling Agent Elesa Wood, of Harris Real Estate, says the house, at 1 Russell Tce, Edwardstown, is like nothing she has seen before.

“It’s like stepping back in time,” Ms Wood says. “It’s unique. I’ve never seen a house like it.”

Describing it as a modest home from the outside, she said “inside it’s amazing”.

The one-owner “perfectly preserved” home has two bedrooms, a formal dining room, kitchen, lounge and a large family room with vaulted ceiling and exposed stone wall.

The rooms are all original except for the family room, which was an addition in the seventies, and the dining room was once a third bedroom, something Ms Wood said could be reverted.

The original kitchen, built by the owner, is bright and retro, the rooms have striking wallpaper, and the bathroom is also all original.

“When I went through he (the owner) pointed out certain things that were very special because of this that and the other, he was very houseproud.

“He was talking about the textiles and fittings and how it had to be the best of the best of everything.” Ms Wood says.

On the market for only a short time, there has already been plenty of interest in the property, including from first-home buyers and from people interested solely in its furnishings.

“There’s a real retro market at the moment.” Ms Wood says.

“I’ve had people contacting me asking ‘can I buy the furniture? Can I buy the lounge chairs?’ It’s inspired a lot of discussion.”

The furniture is negotiable in the sale.

She says the property offers “endless opportunities” whether it be to leave as is, modernise or knock down and develop (subject to council consent) on the 700sq m (approx.) block with a wide frontage.

Depending on what their circumstances are, tThere will be some people that are into the retro look and there are people that might feel quite nostalgic because it’s like time stood still and people in their 50s might remember their childhood.” Ms Wood says.

“It’s a really lovely, light, bright property that’s structurally very sound.’’

The property is nestled between the city and the sea and close to Castle Plaza and transport. It’s priced at $420,000 to $430,000.
