A RENOVATED shop-fronted maisonette in Brompton offers a range of options for its next buyer, according to the selling agent.

Tom Ladas, of Ray White Woodville, describes the property as a “hidden gem”.

“There aren’t too many shopfronts in the whole area and most in the west have already been converted into residences,” Mr Ladas says.

Mr Ladas believes the roperty comprises acottage-style house was built in the late 1800s or early 1900s. There are also two adjoining shopfronts with separate accesses and a bathroom.

“This hidden gem has a myriad of possibilities.”

The house has three bedrooms, an eat-in kitchen, lounge, renovated bathroom and laundry and two rooms at the front that are about 60sq m total in size.

It also has rear-lane access and a double carport, on the 324sq m block.

Mr Ladas believes a previous owner used the shopfronts as an art gallery for his works and lived in the house, while the current owners, who bought it in 2007, have used the property solely as a residence.

“The current vendor has been using it as office space, more of a study.”

The current owner has also spent the past year renovating the property.

“It’s quite well renovated and has nice neutral decor,” Mr Ladas says.

As the shop fronts haven’t been used for commercial purposes for more than 15 years, Mr Ladas suggests prospective buyers speak to the local council about setting up any businesses.

His suggestion is to use the space as extra living areas.

“Personally, I’d put a big-screen TV in one room to watch my English Premier League soccer and a billiard table in the other room,” he laughs.

“Make it a living area or a games room.

“There’s plenty of scope.”

Otherwise he also suggests adding a kitchenette and renting the areas out as student or short-term accommodation.

Interested parties have included people looking to live in the house and run a small business from as well as artists and photographers.

The property will be auctioned this Saturday, May 25, at 11am.
