THIS probably isn't what most people are thinking of when they ask if someone was raised in a barn.
In fact, if this unusual Gippsland home is anything to go by, barn living has more in common with a New York loft than a hay loft.
Garfield resident Heidi Kramer and horse trainer husband Paul used to live next door to the house, styled on a midwest American barn. But when it was listed for rent recently, the pair jumped at the opportunity, and brought their daughter, Pash, and her young family with them.
"It's a talking point - you either love it or hate it,'' Ms Kramer said.
"We initially took it to run some horses on the land, but the barn grew on us. And everyone that comes inside falls in love with it.''
For Izzy, 3, and Xavier, 2, living in a barn is surprisingly comfortable.
In fact, the four-bedroom barn would give most houses a run for their money. There are polished floorboards in the lounge, a large kitchen and the main bathroom has his-and-hers vanities. And the price tag would be at home in some of Melbourne's most well-heeled suburbs.
LJ Hooker's Graeme Dimsey has what is probably Victoria's only securely leased barn listed for sale, and expects it to fetch north of $1 million.
